Today at Beech Hill we celebrated 110 years since the church was first founded. So much has changed over the decades — the building, the faces, the seasons we’ve walked through — yet God’s word never changes. Psalm 89 begins with confidence, celebration, and strong declarations of God’s faithfulness — the psalmist lifts up God’s covenant love and mighty works with joy. But after verse 37, the tone changes. The psalmist looks at the brokenness around him and cries out in confusion, asking why God’s promises seem distant in the midst of suffering. Great is Your Steadfast Love — Psalm 86 Richard Hughes brings us a heartfelt teaching from Psalm 86, exploring four ways we can respond to God’s steadfast love: • Remember what God has done for us and promised us • Recognise our need and God’s greatness • Relate to a loving Lord and Father • Request what we need most Richard also shares a verse that means so much to him — “Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name.” He reads it in Welsh, a beautiful moment that resonates for us all. Pastor Chris continues our series in Judges, and this week we step into one of the most surprising and unsettling parts of the whole book. We meet a man called Micah — and no, not Micah the prophet. These two are chalk and cheese. This Micah is a picture of what happens when people create their own version of faith, their own version of God, and their own version of truth. It’s a story full of confusion, compromise, and spiritual drift. And it all sits under that haunting line: “Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” Judges 17–18 challenges us to ask: What happens when worship becomes self‑made?
